Log Book (original title "Carnet de bord") is the fourth episode of Season 1 of Code Lyoko.

Plot[]

It's 7:30 AM at Kadic as Ulrich is ransacking his drawers while Odd waits for him, hungry for breakfast. Ulrich tells him to go down and get breakfast without him, citing that he's searching for something important. Later, in the cafeteria, Odd has finished eating eight slices of toast and three bananas. He asks Jeremie, who is sitting next to him, if he's skipping gym class again. Jeremie says yes, adding it will give him more time to work on Aelita's materialization program. In the Dormitory Building, Ulrich comes out of his dorm room to find Sissi waiting for him outside. With a sly tone, she asks, "Can we talk for a second?"

At 8 AM, Yumi arrives on campus. She walks over to Jeremie and Odd, who are standing near the Dormitory Building and they spots Ulrich with Sissi, who are sitting and talking on the steps of the cafeteria. Whatever Sissi is talking to Ulrich about, he declares that it clearly involves blackmailing him. Finally, Sissi drags him off with her. Later, in history class, Sissi can't help but look at Ulrich as Mr. Fumet lectures on the 17th-century European state of affairs. Behind the two, Odd talks with Jeremie about a possible relationship between Ulrich and Sissi and comments on Herb's jealous expression.

When class ends, Sissi is following Ulrich out when Odd grabs her and pulls her away, saying they have something to talk about. Jeremie asks Ulrich, "Mind explaining?" As Odd distracts Sissi, Ulrich confesses to Jeremy that he's been keeping a diary for years, which Sissi found and is using as leverage to make Ulrich go out with her. To make things worse, Ulrich confirms Jeremy's concern that it contains sensitive information regarding Lyoko and X.A.N.A. and if he doesn't do what Sissi says, she'll expose it for the entire school. Jeremie assures him that he and Yumi will find it while he and Sissi are on the class trip to the pool. A few feet away, Sissi yells at Odd, finally dismissing his many many suspicions as to whether or not she had gotten a nose job. Ulrich walks over to them and tells Odd to leave her alone. He puts his hand on her arm and walks away with her. She then looks back at Odd and snickers. Jeremie informs Odd he'll explain.

Later in the day, one of X.A.N.A.'s spectres emerges from a street-side generator and enters a bus parked outside Kadic. As students board the bus, Jim brags to Odd that the bus is the latest in electric modern technology and that it is not only environmentally friendly, but powerful too. Odd comments responds that he's willing to bet the bus moves at a snail's pace as he steps aboard. The bus driver notices sparks around the steering wheel for a moment. As Jim and the bus driver look at the speed display, a black silhouette quickly races up the windshield. Seeing nothing else wrong, Jim orders all the kids to stay seated and they start the trip to the pool. As the bus departs, Ulrich can be seen whispering to Odd. In Jeremie's dorm room, Yumi is furious to hear about Ulrich being blackmailed by Sissi and she decides to look in Sissi's room for Ulrich's diary. Jeremie tells her that he'll be at the Factory. There, Jeremie contacts Aelita, who is sitting inside a tower, studying aspects of Earth. At that moment, he gets a call from Odd, who says the bus is going unusually slow (The driver confirms that he has the gas floored and it simply won't respond) and Jeremie then starts looking for activated towers.

Yumi picks the lock on Sissi's dorm room door and carefully searches for Ulrich's diary. She looks around the whole room, but finds nothing. She decides to take a break and lie down on Sissi's bed, but she feels a hard object inside one of her pillow. She unzips the back and finds a book, believing to have succeeded. However, knowing Ulrich's handwriting, she realizes that this is not Ulrich's diary, but Sissi's, and reads the latest entry:

"I'm tired of his acting as if I don't even exist. I can't stand watching him pay so much attention to Yumi. So, while he was in the lunchroom, I went looking around. I just wanted a picture of him, but I found much better than that. Now, he can't possibly turn me down. I know what I'm doing isn't very nice, but it's the only way I can get him to stop ignoring me."

Yumi denounces Sissi's underhanded tactics and calls Jeremie, informing him that she found Sissi's diary. She also added that Sissi knows about Lyoko; Thankfully, she doesn't really understand what it is, but she's ready to use what she knows. In the meantime, Yumi assures Jeremie that she knows exactly how she can get back Ulrich's diary. Meanwhile, the bus is being outpaced, even by bikers. While yelling at Ulrich for ignoring her, she gets a call from Yumi. Yumi, who is sitting in the bathroom, sarcastically commenting on her style as she reads to her a nasty excerpt from her diary about Jim. Instantly realizing exactly what this is all about, Sissi asks what she wants; Yumi demands to know where Ulrich's diary is unless she wants all her secrets in hands of Milly and Tamia. Sissi tells her it's in the third stall of the girl's bathroom, on the water tank. Incredibly, that's exactly where Yumi is at that very moment, and she finds it sitting right above her. Yumi then hangs up on Sissi, leaving her concerned for her own diary. Hearing this, Ulrich realizes that thanks to his real friends, he's off Sissi's leash and sits down next to Odd. Immediately, Herb, obviously waiting for Ulrich to leave, sits down next to Sissi and starts commenting about Ulrich not getting off her back and such, to which Sissi just tells him to shut up. Yumi leaves the girl's bathroom and races to get Ulrich's diary back where it belongs when she is spotted by Mr. Chardin. She just barely manages to cook up an excuse and she keeps going.

Meanwhile, Jeremie finds the activated tower in the Desert Sector. Just then, Ulrich notices the bus's abnormalities and all of a sudden, it accelerates and the controls become unresponsive. Ulrich and Odd get out of their seats and race to the front, trying to figure out the problem. The driver admits that he has lost all control and it was working just fine when he recharged the batteries. As Ulrich proceeds back to his seat, he calls up Jeremy and informs him of their predicament; X.A.N.A. has taken complete control of the bus. Jeremie tries to figure out XANA's true intentions all the while tracking down the bus. Ulrich says they've just passed the corner of Washington Street and Franklin Avenue and hangs up. Realizing that Aelita is going to need help on Lyoko, Ulrich decides to bear the brunt of the rough ride they're in for the sake of everybody else trapped on the bus while Odd, opens the doors and leaps out of the speeding bus, onto the pavement. Accelerating to speeds over 100 kmph, the bus smashes through multiple cars at an intersection, causing many accidents and continues on. At Kadic, Yumi gets a call from Jeremie, telling her to get to the Factory after class. On the bus, Jim and the Driver advise all the kids to keep their seatbelts fastened while Ulrich stays on the phone with Jeremy. When he informs him that the bus has just passed through the Constellation Intersection, Jeremie finally manages to localize the bus but still can't figure out what XANA is trying to do with it. On Lyoko, Aelita has the activated tower in sight and Jeremy tells her to stay put until Yumi arrives at the Factory. Once there, Jeremy virtualizes her and she is ready for battle with Aelita.

In the lab, Jeremie triangulates the bus's route and, to his horror, realizes XANA is launching the bus on a collision course with the petrochemical complex outside the city to send Ulrich and everybody else on the bus to a fiery doom (Odd would be too if he hadn't escaped). In the bus, Jim cuts several wires, but it doesn't stop the bus. The bus driver insists that they have to jump, but the door doesn't open and the driver assumes Jim has sealed off the door by cutting the cables. Still on the phone, Ulrich tells Jim that Jeremie thinks they're headed towards the petrochemical plant. Jim asks how he knows that, but Ulrich makes up an excuse and tells him that trusting Jeremy's judgement is the only way out of this situation. Sissi apologizes to Ulrich for stealing his diary and asks how she can help. Ulrich hands her his cell phone, saying she can be the go-between for him and Jeremy. On Lyoko, Aelita and Yumi are near the activated tower when they come to a completely undisturbed plateau. Yumi orders Aelita to be on guard since it's bizarre to come all this way and not see a single monster. Just then, a twister appears behind them and whips up a sandstorm. Yumi tells Jeremy of their predicament and Jeremy returns the favor by informing the girls that a monster is on their tail. The bus is being pursued by two police cars when Jeremie tells Sissi that it is about to turn left. Ulrich tells everyone to go to the left side of the bus to brace for collisions. The bus careens into a guard railing, but continues on its course. Jim suggests that the best course of action would be to jump off the bus, but Sissi says that it would suicide at this speed. Ulrich takes his cell phone back and asks Jeremy for a Lyoko update. Jeremy informs him that Aelita and Yumi are almost at the tower, but caught in a sandstorm. The girls are holding their ground against the violent winds as Jeremy tells Yumi to be careful of the cliff, citing what will happen if either of them falls into the digital sea. Just then, Aelita sees the monster up close and reveals itself to be a Megatank coming up for a surprise attack. In the middle of the sandstorm, the Megatank fires its laser that the girls manage to dodge. They run, but the monster gives chase and continues using the sandstorm for cover. Suddenly, cracks appear in the ground and the piece of land they're on splits from the rest of plateau, stranding them on an island as the sandstorm clears up. Yumi claims it was a trap set by XANA and Aelita uses her Creativity to create a bridge across the fissures. When Odd finally arrives at the Factory and enters the scanners, Jeremy tells Ulrich that they'll be reaching the complex in ten minutes just as they're about to make another left turn. As Yumi and Aelita run, the Megatank returns and blasts Yumi from behind. Before she can recover, she is devirtualized with another. Jeremy frantically orders Aelita to find a place to hide long enough for Odd to arrive.

When Yumi is returned to the Factory, Odd enters the Desert Sector and meets up with Aelita. A fissure opens up beneath her, but Odd grabs her before she falls and they get to work. Multiple police units are in hot pursuit of the bus while Ulrich tells Jeremy that they are four minutes away from the complex, which means Aelita has only four minutes to neutralize the XANA's tower. A ridge forms as two pieces of land split and the sandstorm returns, along with the Megatank. Odd takes Aelita's hand, telling her he has an idea and they run off. They come to another fissure as one opens up and run strait for it. As the Megatank closes in, Odd throws Aelita over the ridge and he tornado-flips over it, letting the pursuing Megatank tumble into the Digital Sea as the sandstorm clears up. Finally clear of all XANA's traps, Aelita arrives at the tower. In the bus, Jim gets out a hammer and starts smashing through the windows hoping to go through with Sissi's idea. However, right as Jim breaks one down, XANA swerves the bus in an attempt make Jim to fall out, but Ulrich and Heidi manage to grab him in time. Aelita enters the tower as the bus smashes through the security gates of the petrochemical plant. With only seconds away from a deadly collision, Aelita deactivates the tower just in time, causing the bus to stop inches from a massive chemical tank. With XANA's latest threat neutralized, Jeremie then brings up a return to the past, reverting everyone back to the morning.

Yumi takes Ulrich's diary from the bathroom and returns it to him, assuring him that she didn't read it. Ulrich tells her that one day, he'll tell her what secrets it's pages contain, and they part ways on awkward (yet secretly romantic) terms. Ulrich intercepts Sissi at his dorm right on time leaves her surprised to see Ulrich in possession of the book she though she had stolen and she runs off, defeated and confused. Ulrich opens the door to his room, finding Odd and Jeremie and they can't help but cheer at both of today's victories.
