The William clone talking to Principal Delmas in Double Take.

The William Clone was a program created by Jeremie Belpois after William Dunbar had been captured by X.A.N.A. and turned into his newest weapon. Its purpose was to act in the real William's place in order to ensure nobody would become suspiscious of his absence. Unfortunately, due to being the result of an Artificial Intelligence, the clone couldn't understand human behavior like sarcasm and exaggeration, thus took everything it was told literally, causing everyone else to see "William" as becoming foolish, thus requiring the Lyoko Warriors' supervision to ensure it didn't stand out.

After the real William was freed from X.A.N.A.'s control in Down to Earth, Jeremie deactivated the Tower in the Desert Sector under his control in order to delete the program.

Season Four

When Jim stated that he was a real piece of work, the clone replied: "Oh, I'm not just any piece of work, to be more specific I'm a digitally generated polymorphic energy field controlled by a non-evolving, basic, behavioral program". This, along with the fact that he told Milly and Tamiya about the Factory out in the open, made Jeremie realize that he had failed to instill to William's clone that Lyoko and all related subjects had to remain secret to anyone outside of their group.

Despite, at least in theory, not being able to learn new behavior, he did start to show some emotions in A Lack of Goodwill, such as empathy for Milly and Tamiya, defensive behavior, and even playful behavior in the end. He, however, doesn't understand idioms and takes everything he is told literally, such as when Jim asked him if he "got the picture", the clone asked where the picture was for him to get.

The clone was created at the end of the episode Double Take. He was an Artificial Intelligence in humanoid form as Aelita was thought to be in the first two seasons.

In Wreck Room, in order to free William from X.A.N.A., Jeremie used the program from the clone's tower only for it to malfunction, which caused the clone act mean and aggressive to everyone around him. This also allowed X.A.N.A. to take control of the clone and order it to kill Yumi, and later Ulrich and Sissi. In this episode, he was also elected the monitor of the rec room, but this was undone by a return to the past.

In Dog Day Afternoon, Sissi becomes suspicious about the clone's behavior and believing the Lyoko Warriors responsible for it, starts to follow and question him, which forces Yumi to pretend to be dating the clone to keep him away from Sissi (who didn't believe her lie for obvious reasons), and while walking away from a following Sissi, Jeremie managed to distract her with faking a call from her father, allowing Yumi to rush back to the factory, leaving the clone on a bench, trusting he knows how to return to the school.

In A Lack of Goodwill, Milly and Tamiya overhead Lyoko Warriors talking about William being a clone regarding his odd behavior at cafeteria so they decided to make an interview with him. William clone said to them everything about Lyoko, Lyoko Warriors and the fact that real William was a prisoner of XANA. When Milly and Tamiya asked him about proof that what he's saying is true, he took them to the factory where William's clone and real William fought with each other and then real William deactivated the tower Jeremie activated to sustain the clone, causing him to disintegrate.

In Down to Earth, William's parents came to Kadic regarding their son's behavior and were totally shocked how the clone was completely different in behavior than their real son. However, after learning that Jeremie Belpois may have something to do with his "change", the two along with Jim, Sissi and Mr. Delmas go to his room but find it locked. Luckily, it's at this moment that Jeremie deactivates the tower he was using to create the clone, deleting it the process and allowing the real William to slip into place with only Jim seeing some of this which is chalked up to Delmas as stress from him working too hard.

Code Lyoko Evolution

X.A.N.A. created a clone of William to steal the rest of Yumi's source codes in Rivalry. However, he was stopped by Ulrich, and it chased after him, where it confronted both him and the real William in the gym. However, Odd deactivated the tower and the clone was destroyed before it could harm them.

William XANA E2

Evil William Clone in The Codeless.

X.A.N.A. created another clone on Lyoko in The Codeless. This clone took William's virtualized form, but the orange lines on his costume were green and he had a black eye of X.A.N.A. on his forehead. It confronted Yumi and William at the activated tower. It tried to bring William back to X.A.N.A.'s side by saying the Lyoko Warriors were using him, especially Yumi. William fell under the clone's influence for a short time and chased Yumi down, but he later snapped out of it and stalled the clone long enough for Yumi to get to the tower, deactivate it, and destroy the clone. While the William clone in Season 4 was shown to be stupid, the William clone in The Codeless displays all the traits of a sociopath; he manipulates William and Yumi, he has a large ego, and he shows no remorse for trying to devirtualize Yumi.

In False Pretenses, X.A.N.A. made a spectre of William to confuse Odd, who also had two spectres of the same image made to confuse William. To try determining who was the real Odd and William, they tried asking each other personal questions, where Odd asked both Williams if he had kissed Yumi yet, to which they both hesitantly refused to answer the question, saying "Uhh... pass." The William clone then asked Odd how many girls in his class he had dated, to which he threatened to devirtualize Odd, claiming he must be the fake one since he could not recount the names of every girl he had dated. Odd then devirtualized both the William and Odd clones as Jeremie launched a program causing a halo to appear around each clone.

Trivia

  • This clone that Jeremie created exhibits the enhanced strength, speed, and pixelated body as all the other clones. However, since X.A.N.A. is still the superior programmer, it doesn't demonstrate the ability to control electromagnetic energy or influence technology like its past clones.
  • He has a minor plot in Quest for Infinity and Fall of X.A.N.A. that goes nowhere, in which he's overheating.
  • In Dog Day Afternoon, the clone told Sissi that he thinks Ulrich is a nice guy, contrary to the rivalry between the real William and Ulrich.
